When you sign on as a freelance contractor with Chart House Press and show us what you can do, we’ll work hard to provide you a steady stream of leads. We’re launching new nonfiction book projects all the time. Each book that goes through Chart House Press needs quality editors, formatting experts, and cover designers. Some of our authors need ghostwriters or book coaches. And once a book is produced, what author doesn’t need marketing and publicity help?
Contractors who work through Chart House Press will still be free to accept or decline projects, set their own rates, and work by their own terms. We won’t ask you to change the way you do business. But we will make your life easier by handling all the administrative work – contracts, billing and payments – leaving you free to do what you do best.
Fees and Payments
We understand that the administrative details of running a freelance business can often be overwhelming. If you’re a creative type — and many of you are — you likely find billing and payment processing to be a necessary evil. We’ll remove some of those headaches for you! When we contract you for a project through Chart House Press, we manage the project and will handle all the billing and payment processing, so you don’t have to. You’re still free to set your own rates and terms, but you won’t have to spend time composing invoices and chasing down clients for payment.
We recognize the value of talented writers, editors, designers and marketers. You’ll be an integral part of Chart House Press, so as you succeed, we succeed. We’re committed to providing you new opportunities to use your talents and improve your skills, both through ongoing freelance opportunities as well as training workshops and educational resources.
How to Get Started
Joining the Chart House Press team is easy! If we haven’t worked with you before, we’ll ask you to fill out a short application. Once that’s done, we may ask you to complete some additional screening steps specific to the position for which you’re applying. For example, if you’re applying to be a writer, we may ask for writing samples; if you’re applying to be an editor, we may ask you to take an editing test; designers will be asked for art or book cover samples.
Once you’re approved, we’ll have you fill out and sign some basic paperwork – a copy of our Freelancer Agreement and a W-9 for our accounting department.
After those housekeeping tasks are complete, we’ll direct you to set up a full profile and put you to work!
